The American Heart Association (AHA) released updated blood pressure guidelines for 2025, emphasizing earlier intervention and personalized care. But let’s be clear: 120/80 mm Hg remains the standard for a “normal” reading and it’s the reading that I will continue to advocate for.

I’ve been in an extensive communication with our friend at Emory Healthcare Educare to ensure I’m relaying the most accurate and helpful information to you, our readers. It was important to me that we both understood the updates clearly. In a nutshell, they’ve indicated that a reading of 130/80 mm Hg is now considered Stage 1 elevated blood pressure, and care will be tailored to each individual patient’s needs.
Don't get confused or lost with all the numbers but let’s use them to understand what is going on.
Let's Start here:
Talk with your trusted physician about what these guidelines mean for you
Ask about your personal risk factors and treatment options
Monitor your blood pressure regularly at home (we kept readings on the calendar and took it with us to the doctor's office)
Embrace heart-healthy habits: low-sodium meals, movement, and mindfulness (meaning start now my friends)
Stay informed through blogs, webinars, and educational resources (it's my pleasure)
Your numbers are not your destiny they’re a doorway to conversation, care, and clarity. You've got this! Let’s keep advocating for compassion, calm, and community-centered care. #HeartHealth
To Your Health, Cynthia
